Another holster thread...

I just picked up a few Bianchi leather holsters, all of which I am happy with. I just wanted to see if anyone had some holsters that they could recommend, primarily for a glock 23. I've been purchasing the ones that are on my hip, and the bianchi holds it pretty close. Basically it disappears under a dickies t-shirt...

Are there any brands of custom holsters out there you can recommend? I paid about 75$ for my bianchi holsters, and I know some of the nicer ones can retail for 150+ on up.

What cha got? My CHL will be here any day now...

ALSO...very important...

What belt can you recommend? I'm a t-shirt and jeans type of guy...will a regular leather belt get the job done where I aint gotta worry bout my piece falling on the floor due to a busted belt?

Thanks!

Get a good, WIDE belt. You dont necessarily have to get a gun belt, since youll pay out the nose for one, but the standard dress belt at 3/4" or 1" width can make it a little uncomfortable by not helping to distribute the weight well.

I leanred the lesson the hard way, sticking it out before caving and getting a new belt. GOt a real cheap, 2" wide belt for 12 bucks. Its not super slick or anything, probably wont last years and years, but it was cheap and it helped immensly.

A good quality holster helps alot to, but it sounds like you got a good one. I made my own from kydex and leather. It gets annoying sometimes, but I only spent 10 bucks on it and I got used to it ;)

UBG (Ugly Bald Guy) Regulator for OWB :s9:

HBE (Holsters by Eric Leatherworks) Com 3 for IWB :s9:

Love them both and would buy again in a heartbeat. :rose:

2" leather belt does the job.

I don't like anything "strong-side". If you have a long torso and short arms like a Mexican they are OK. Cowboys of days gone by wore their guns low for a reason. Getting past the t-shirt in a hurry might take some practice.
I prefer cross draw and horizontal shoulder holsters if under a jacket. I can get them out quick. For concealed carry without jacket I usually carry a little 38 snubbie or a Khar 9mm in a Kangaroo holster or belly band mounted under my left tit/armpit, butt forward. They are virtually undetectable. I like to wear them under a pearl-snap western shirt so I can just reach for the gun and the snaps pop out of my way. If it's too hot for a long sleeve shirt I just carry the Khar 9MM stuck in my pants on the left side with the butt forward under a t-shirt, which is less than ideal, but I can get past a t-shirt on cross draw much easier than strong side. Either way, the left hand can move the t-shirt if going cross draw.
Also sometimes carry in pocket of baggy shorts but it prints and flops around. All my leather holsters, mostly Bianchi, Galco and Hunter, have a thumb break.

If you want to hide a fat Glock in a leather holster strong side under a t-shirt you need real broad shoulders, narrow waist and a baggy shirt.

Edit: Also carry in bellyband with short sleeve button shirt with a button undone.

Well that fits me to the T. I went to mens warehouse to get fitted for a suite and the guy tripped out on my shoulders...

I powerlift 3 days a week so it helps in this area.

The best IWB holster is the Milt Sparks VM-2. Expect to wait six months for one, but they are worth the wait. I would also get a belt at the same time. I am 5'6" and 150 pounds, and a five-inch 1911 disappears when I wear shorts and a polo over a T-shirt.

I wouldn't recommend anything but IWB holsters for concealed carry. Even if you think you don't show, ask someone else to watch as you bend over, walk around, etc...and see if they spot any telltale bulges.

Leather sweats, absorbs moisture, and squeaks when you bend.

F.I.S.T. Ultra Thin Kydex for your G23. Also leather, if you must. Simple.

I have a holster from horseshoe leather products. He's got a long wait for holsters and they are expensive, but they are totally worth it! I love the holster I have, top notch quality!

I have it for a CZ-85. I HIGHLY recommend them and all future holster needs will be ordered from him!

He's based in the UK...ironic that they can't own handguns, but he makes a living making holsters!

I've tried quite a few different types of holsters, but my favorite so far is the 3 slot leather pancake holster from Blackhawk. The leather quality is excellent and it conceals well carrying the pistol high and tight. The 3 slots make cant adjustment possible. I carry my Colt 1911 crossdraw, easily and comfortably.

Both leather and kydex have upsides and drawbacks as do both IWB and OWB. There isn't any "best for everyone" holster made. If at all possible borrow a couple of holsters to try and decide which will serve you best. Talk to people who carry all day everyday and see what they prefer.
